Matthew Kavan is an award winning illustrator based in Nottingham, England. His style is raw, driven by simplicity, mark making and impact of colour built for editorial and advertising. Matthew's work uses a wealth of traditional fine art mediums and practices to create contemporary digital artworks with texture, craft and true character.
Inspired by the works of Edward Hopper and the great artist Hergé, Matthew's portfolio strikes a balance between realist contemporary living and figurative illustration. His simplified use of light give imagery and objects setting and weight whilst his descriptive and expressive line work show the craft to capture character with a minimum of marks.
Matthew's illustrative aesthetic cites a bold range of influences that are key to his work, from his time spent living in Chicago to his professional career spent working for British fashion designers Paul Smith and Alexander McQueen. Colour, form and striking line work combine to create imagery for fashion, sports and contemporary living.
